Northern Art Prize & Northern Film School

Northern Art Prize Film from Northern Art Prize on Vimeo.

This year the Northern Art Prize commissioned the Leeds based Northern Film School to make a short film that would give the public a chance to see what the Northern Art Prize is all about. A team of six recent graduates and current students from the school went on location over the summer to meet the four short listed artists – Alec Finlay, Lubaina Himid, David Jacques and Haroon Mirza – in their studios to talk about their work and what being nominated means to them. They also interviewed Prize director Pippa Hale to get the lowdown on why the exhibition of work from the short list opening on 26 November 2010 at Leeds Art Gallery is a must see and what the Prize says about visual arts in the North today.

We are really excited to see the Northern Art Prize through fresh eyes and think that the Film School have done a fantastic job of understanding the Prize and getting to know the artists, producing a film that everyone culturally curious will enjoy.
